About Sequel

Sequel Data Systems has been solving hard IT problems for Texas organizations since 1986. We design, procure, implement, and support data center, networking, security, and cloud environments for public sector and commercial clients across the state. We are a Texas DIR and TIPS approved vendor and hold top-tier partnerships with Dell Technologies, Microsoft, HPE, Cisco, VMware, and Pure Storage. Our engineers are the reason customers keep calling us back. We invest in certifications, lab time, and the kind of depth that lets an engineer walk into an unfamiliar environment and be useful within the first hour.

The Role

Systems Engineers at Sequel work across the full lifecycle: pre-sales discovery and design, solution architecture, implementation, and ongoing support. You will work alongside Account Executives on new opportunities, write the technical scope, and then deliver the work you designed. We hire across three practice areas — infrastructure, networking, and cloud — and place engineers based on depth and interest. Candidates who span more than one are especially valuable to us.

What You'll Do

  • Participate in pre-sales calls and discovery sessions to understand customer requirements and current-state environments
  • Design solutions and author statements of work, bills of materials, and technical proposals
  • Implement and configure infrastructure, network, security, and cloud solutions in customer environments
  • Perform assessments, migrations, upgrades, and modernization projects
  • Provide escalation-level troubleshooting and support for managed and supported customers
  • Document environments, configurations, and project deliverables to a professional standard
  • Transfer knowledge to customer IT staff — we teach, we do not create dependency
  • Track and enter all project and support time accurately and on schedule
  • Maintain and expand manufacturer certifications relevant to your practice area
  • Partner with Project Managers to keep engagements on scope, on schedule, and within approved hours

What You Bring

Practice Area Experience

Meaningful hands-on experience in one or more of the following:

  • Infrastructure: server platforms, enterprise storage, backup and disaster recovery, VMware and other virtualization platforms
  • Networking: routing and switching, wireless, firewalls, SD-WAN, network security, and campus and data center network design
  • Cloud: Microsoft 365 and Azure, Entra ID and Active Directory, Intune, identity and access management, cloud migration and cost optimization, AWS

General Requirements

  • Three or more years in a consulting, VAR, MSP, or enterprise IT engineering role
  • Relevant manufacturer certifications (Microsoft, Cisco, VMware, Dell, HPE, Pure Storage, or equivalent), or a clear track record of earning them
  • Ability to write clearly — scopes of work and documentation are a real part of this job
  • Comfort working directly with customers, including in high-pressure or outage situations
  • Strong troubleshooting instincts and the judgment to know when to escalate
  • Willingness to travel within Texas to customer sites, with occasional after-hours or weekend work for maintenance windows and cutovers
  • Valid driver's license

What We Offer

  • Competitive salary based on experience and certification level
  • Health, dental, and vision coverage
  • 401(k) with company contribution
  • Paid time off and holidays
  • Paid training, exam fees, and dedicated time for certification work
  • Exposure to a wide range of technologies and customer environments rather than a single stack
  • A culture where engineers are treated as the core of the business, not a cost center

Austin, Dallas, Houston, San Antonio, or El Paso, Texas

About Sequel

Sequel Data Systems has been solving hard IT problems for Texas organizations since 1986. We design, procure, implement, and support data center, networking, security, and cloud environments for public sector and commercial clients across the state. We are a Texas DIR and TIPS approved vendor and hold top-tier partnerships with Dell Technologies, Microsoft, HPE, Cisco, VMware, and Pure Storage.

The Role

The Account Executive owns a defined territory and book of business and is responsible for growing both. You will sell the full Sequel portfolio — infrastructure and hardware, professional services, cloud, and recurring support offerings — to K-12 districts, higher education, local government, and commercial organizations.

This is a consultative, relationship-driven sales role. Our best Account Executives are technically fluent, understand their customers' environments and budget cycles, and bring engineering into the conversation early.

What You'll Do

  • Own and grow revenue and gross profit in an assigned territory or vertical
  • Build and maintain executive and technical relationships within your accounts, from IT director to superintendent to CFO
  • Develop and manage a qualified pipeline in our CRM, with accurate forecasting and disciplined opportunity management
  • Partner with solutions engineers on discovery, solution design, and proposal development
  • Attach professional services and recurring support to product opportunities as a standard part of every deal
  • Navigate public sector procurement, including DIR, TIPS, and other cooperative contract vehicles, RFPs, and formal bid processes
  • Work with manufacturer and distribution partners on deal registration, pricing programs, and joint account planning
  • Prepare and present quotes, statements of work, and renewal proposals
  • Maintain accurate account, opportunity, and order documentation to support billing and post-sale delivery

What You Bring

  • Three or more years of quota-carrying B2B technology sales experience; VAR, MSP, or manufacturer background strongly preferred
  • Demonstrated record of meeting or exceeding revenue and margin targets
  • Working knowledge of enterprise infrastructure: servers, storage, networking, virtualization, security, and cloud platforms
  • Ability to lead a business conversation and a technical conversation in the same meeting
  • Experience selling into public sector or education is a significant advantage; commercial and healthcare experience is equally valued
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills and comfort presenting to executive audiences
  • CRM discipline and accurate forecasting habits
  • Valid driver's license and willingness to travel within Texas for customer meetings

What We Offer

  • Competitive base salary plus uncapped commission
  • Health, dental, and vision coverage
  • 401(k) with company contribution
  • Paid time off and holidays
  • A deep engineering bench and pre-sales support so you can sell solutions, not just SKUs
  • A 40-year customer base and established contract vehicles to sell through
  • A company small enough that your results are visible, and large enough to compete for any deal in the state

Project Manager
The Project Manager owns delivery for a portfolio of concurrent technical engagements, from the moment a purchase order is received through final billing.

About Sequel

Sequel Data Systems is an IT infrastructure engineering company. We help organizations architect, integrate, protect,
and enable the technology their business depends on — across data center, cloud, networking, security, and AI
readiness, with solutions designed around each client's needs.

For four decades, we've done this for commercial and public sector clients — rooted in Texas, working whereverclients need us. We're engineer-led, meaning the people who assess an environment are the same ones who solve it.

The Role

The Project Manager owns delivery for a portfolio of concurrent technical engagements, from the moment a purchaseorder is received through final billing. You will coordinate engineers, hold customers to schedules, track hours againstapproved scope, and escalate early when a project starts to drift.

This is not a pure scheduling role. Our project managers are involved in pre-sales, help shape statements of work, andcarry real accountability for whether an engagement finishes profitably. Technical fluency matters — you do not needto configure a firewall, but you do need to follow the conversation and know when an answer does not add up.

What You'll Do

Project Delivery

  • Manage a portfolio of concurrent infrastructure, network, security, and cloud engagements through the full delivery lifecycle
  • Run project kickoff meetings, working sessions, and status calls with customers and internal teams
  • Build and maintain project schedules, resource assignments, and delivery milestones in our project management platform
  • Coordinate engineer availability against committed timelines and flag resourcing conflicts before they become delivery problems
  • Maintain accurate project status, notes, and documentation so that anyone on the team can pick up contextquickly

Scope and Financial Discipline

  • Track hours consumed against approved scope and notify account managers and customers well before a bucketof hours is exhausted
  • Identify scope changes early and drive change orders rather than absorbing unbilled work
  • Confirm all engineer and project time is entered accurately and on schedule before an engagement moves tobilling
  • Work with operations and finance to ensure completed projects are billed promptly and correctly
  • Surface margin risk on active engagements to the Director of Operations

Pre-Sales and Scoping Support

  • Coordinate engineer participation in pre-sales calls and discovery sessions
  • Support the development, review, and quality control of statements of work and bills of materials
  • Route finalized documents to account managers and track opportunities through approval

Process and Improvement

  • Maintain the integrity of project data across our project management and ERP systems
  • Contribute to standardizing delivery methodology, templates, and reporting as the services practice scales
  • Escalate persistent process breakdowns rather than working around them

What You Bring

  • Three or more years managing technical projects, preferably in a VAR, MSP, consulting, or IT servicesenvironment
  • Demonstrated ability to run multiple concurrent projects with competing deadlines and shared resources
  • Working familiarity with enterprise IT concepts — servers, storage, networking, virtualization, security, and cloudplatforms — sufficient to follow technical discussions and ask useful questions
  • Comfort holding both customers and internal engineers accountable to commitments
  • Strong written communication; clear status reporting and meeting notes are a core deliverable of this role
  • Hands-on experience with project management and ticketing platforms, and general comfort learning newbusiness systems
  • Attention to detail around hours, scope, and billing accuracy
  • PMP, CAPM, or equivalent certification is a plus but not required
  • Experience with public sector or education customers and their procurement cycles is an advantage

What We Offer

  • Competitive salary based on experience
  • Health, dental, and vision coverage
  • 401(k) with company contribution
  • Paid time off and holidays
  • Paid training and support toward project management certification
  • Direct exposure to a broad range of technologies, customers, and industries
  • A role with genuine influence over how a growing services practice operates, not a seat executing someone else'sprocess

"I know if they don’t know it, they will guide me to where it needs to go. And that’s kind of the big thing."

Bruno T. |  IT Division Manager, El Paso County

"Their value adds are better than anyone else. They don’t fix things and then send over some silly invoice."

Troy N. | SISO, Spring Branch ISD

"Sequel is a very broad bench. Certain things they’ll tell you we’re not great at, but we can do. And I want that honesty too."
